Work at Jelly

11 December 2007

I was surfing the web this evening and I found a really nice website called Work at Jelly. Some guys invented a new kind of coworking. On a regular basis, they invite people to work from their home for the day. Wired published an article on the new concept.

Setting Music Free

01 November 2007

Finally, the music industry is heading in the right direction. Or at least some artists are. By giving people free access to their music, it’s easier for artists to spread their message. And that message is about fair treatment of their audience. The industry has been charging people too much money for music over the past three decades. Time has come to set music free.

Vormplus Webtools is Going Open Source

18 September 2007

When I learned HTML in the late ’90s, there wasn’t much wysiwyg webdesign software around. Ok, there was Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft FrontPage, but both produced ugly code so it was better to code everything by hand. And to this day – almost 10 years later – I still do my coding by hand. I can do it faster by hand than I would by using a wysiwyg editor.

An Introduction to Processing

31 August 2007

A while ago Veerle Pieters posted a nice tutorial on her blog: Transform Again in Illustrator. If you are into scripting, there is a faster way to achieve a similar design. Over the years, Illustrator has become more and more scriptable. This is really great for generating designs. But there are some better apps out there to this kind of work. Take a look at Processing and Nodebox

Choosing a Digital Camera

07 July 2007

I’ve been taking photographs for a very long time now. And until now I was mostly shooting on film. Nothing digital yet. I’ve always prefered working with old manual analogue cameras. I just love these things. But a while ago I’ve noticed that my second Yashica body is beginning to die on me. Since I don’t spend that much time in the darkroom anymore, I thought it would be the right time to go digital.

Testing Safari 3 Part II

16 June 2007

I started writing this post with Safari 3 on an iMac G5. I also had troubles starting it up on this mac for the first time. And again this was caused by plugins. A few things I’m writing about in this post:

  • Dragging tabs
  • Resizable textfields
  • Better looking form elements
  • Inline find

New Apple Website

16 June 2007

The new Apple website looks great. And the markup behind their new website is a lot better too. The global navigation of the website isn’t made of tables anymore. They used lists in this version. The buttons are a little bigger too so they are better to point at. The subnavigation from the old tab design is gone too.

11 June 2007

Apple released Safari 3 Public Beta a few hours ago. And it runs on Windows too. Time to take a quick look at the new browser. So here are my first impressions. I’ve tested it on Mac OS X and Windows.
